Modules

To view the files in your vault:

  1. Open the Obsidian sidebar by clicking the view_sidebar icon on the top left corner of the app.
  2. (Make sure you’re looking at the “Files” tab, indicated with a folder_open icon on the desktop app.)
  3. You’ll see all the folders in your vault: The Vault’s Folders

Each of the top-level folders in your Vinaya Bookshelf is called a “module.”

Each module contains one or more works by a particular author. Currently, the Vinaya Bookshelf imports the following modules:

  • Ajahn Brahmali
  • Bhante Suddhaso
  • Canon (Pali)
  • The BMC

These modules are “read only” collections of reference material. The Obsidian Plugin will automatically update these modules for you, so don’t modify these notes.

To take your own notes, see Taking Notes.

Folders

Each module will organize their files in their own way. Use the hierarchical navigation to find the files you’re interested in.

Navigating a Folder

Obsidian has a powerful, built-in search feature that you can use to find notes about whatever topic you’re interested in.

There are two kinds of search in Obsidian:

  1. Go to file: https://help.obsidian.md/plugins/quick-switcher Go to file
  2. Full text search: https://help.obsidian.md/plugins/search Full text search

Please see Obsidian’s documentation (linked above) for more details on using these features.
